Execute Disable Bit technology

Malicious buffer attacks are typically formed by a PC virus which creates a flood of code designed to overwhelm the computer.  Intel's Execute Disable Bit helps prevent certain classes of malicious buffer overflow attacks by allowing the processor to classify areas in memory by where application code can and can not be executed.  When a malicious worm attempts to insert code in the buffer, the processor disables code execution, preventing damage and worm propagation.  By combining Execute Disable Bit with anti-virus, firewall and spyware removal software, users can drastically reduce the likelihood of malicious viruses damaging their computers.

The Everex StepNote LM7WZ notebook uses an Intel® Celeron® M processor 350J, equipped with Execute Disable Bit technology.
